Afrikaners believed they were a superior except native African tribe whose territories had been encroached upon by warlike and primeval black tribes from the north. To the blacks and their outside sympathizers, the Afrikaners were no more than particularly bestial colonial plunders who enslaved and repressed their peoples. The truth was altogether more complicated.

I.         Introduction

Following Dutch independence from England, an uneasy power-sharing between the two groups held authority until the 1940s. By this time the Afrikaner National Party was able to gain a sound majority in government. Strategists in the National Party enforced the use of apartheid as a means to fortify their see over the economic and social system in South Africa. Initially, the aim of the apartheid was to maintain white domination while extending racial separation.

        Starting in the 60s, a plan of Grand Apartheid was executed, emphasizing territorial reserve separation and police repression.
