Although the Aztecs home was Aztlan, a Nahuatl parole that essence ‘’a place of heron’’. Aztlan was in the northeastward of The Valley of Mexico. There, many city-states existed like Chalco, Xochimilco, Tlacopan, Culhuacan and Atzcapotzalco. Culhuacan was the most powerful on the southwest of Lake Texcoco and Atzcapotzalco on the west shore. This vale was the center of the Aztecs civilization, ample and active 7,500 feet above the sea level. However, before the Aztecs came to The Valley of Mexico, other tribal groups came. One of them built the great city and what is straightway identify Teotihuacan. Its people built an empire, and this period was from the fourth to the one-sixth centuries A.D. In 600 A.D., the empire was overthrown and centuries later, another empir e was built by the people of the city Tollan (Tula), known as the Toltecs. The empire lasted from the tenth part to the twelfth century. The people of Tula were killed and burned by their enemies and the Aztecs did not scrape to the valley until the fourteenth century.

The Aztecs had many names among themselves, but the native of the valley were called the Mexica, know today as the Aztec Empire.
