The bar stool test is a test of relief, of devising an idea accessible to someone who is not a specializer in an area. It is a test that all of Ronald Coases make up that I know passes quite easily. It is the remarkable combination of simplicity and depth, which I guess travel together if you are knowing enough, that defines Coases work.
