During the 1950s it was very racists. The worst was the south, ashen and the contrabands could not get married. crowd together parents ended up marrying to each one other and had kids. A white woman and black antheral getting together was very discriminating. pile had struggles with his traits for being black and having a white mother who rode an embarrassing bicycle fooling to where she had to be. James McBride wrote this appropriate, The Color of Water, from his mothers (Ruth) comment. James is an Inquisitive and smart man.
James was a smart man in and out of groom using all he knowledge. He continuously knew what to swear and when the right time was. As James talks just about his school kindred he says Yet she forced us to go to white schools to get the best education. (29). His milliampere took him, his brothers and his sisters there so they could get better education as well. His mom also thought it was better for them so they dont get in trouble with other kids. Meanwhile James was taking music lessons in school. James says I took pianoforte and clarinet lessons in school, often squirreling myself away in some turning point with my clarinet to practice. (90).
Throughout the novel James had plenty of questions for his mom like why shes white and hes black.
He always asked about her childhood and she always switched subjects. James asked What intensity is Gods spirit? (57). Ruth said The Color of Water. This is why the book is named The Color of Water. He always wondered and finally got his answer. James always had so many questions to asked Ruth and half she answered and half she ignored. As the book goes on, James had another question. He had asked Who is Malcolm X?(32). He got his answer and then he had more subsequently the incident that he asked.
