The Bombing in Birmingham
On kinfolk 15th, 1963, Birmingham, Alabama, a bomb exploded in the Baptist church on Sixteenth Street, killing four girls and injuring many. According to members of the church, the day was suppositious to be fun-filled activities for the youth of the congregation. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
Approximately around 10:22 a.m. the bomb ignited in the root cellar of the church and in its path killed Denise McNair, eleven long time old, Addie Mae Collins, fourteen years old, Carole Robertson, fourteen years old, and Cynthia Wesley, fourteen years old. (Wikipedia) Undeniably the church was also in shambles. This caused a hooking of people to make very livid and many more left in despair. It had gotten so bad at one point later on all this mayhem had happen, an additional two African American boys were killed during a volatile demonstration.
The city of Birmingham had originally set an concede of $52,000.00 to anyone who could lead to the arrest of the person(s) who set off the bomb in the church. A man named Robert Chambliss was eventually charged with the bombing among separate related events. From what said, Chambliss was an active member of the Ku Klux Klan.
Chambliss said that he and triplet other members of the KKK planted 19 sticks of dynamite in the basement of the church. The men included in this hateful act were Bobby postmark Cherry, Thomas Blanton and Herman Frank Cash. Regrettably, Chambliss was tried for his merciless acts in appeal but got away scott-free leaving the case unsolved as to the bombing.
Unfortunately for Chambliss, a gentleman by the name of snoot Baxley was elected attorney general of Alabama. Baxley requested the old files on the bombing. During his studying he found that the FBI had gathered a lot of evidence on the streak but this evidence was never used.
